Read more about Ernst Alexis AB's sustainability work and certifications
Ernst Alexis AB is built on a strong and long textile tradition where quality, responsibility, and care have always been core values. Over the years, we have built up a deep knowledge of materials, production, and sustainable working methods—and we are constantly working to develop these even further.
We are aware that all production has an impact on the environment, which is why we take active responsibility for reducing our climate footprint and working as resource-efficiently as possible. Through conscious material choices, long-term partnerships, and continuous development of our processes, we strive to make a real difference.
This commitment permeates our entire business and both our brands, Ernst Alexis and Nytello. Regardless of product or segment, our customers should feel confident that we are working toward a more sustainable future—every day, at every stage.
Environment – our responsibility for a more sustainable future
At Ernst Alexis & Nytello, we take active and long-term responsibility for the environment. We are aware that the textile industry faces major climate and resource challenges, and we therefore work purposefully to reduce our environmental impact at every stage of our operations. Our overall goal is to act in a way that limits negative impact as much as possible while contributing to positive change.
We work systematically to reduce climate emissions, waste, and unnecessary transport – something that is made possible by the fact that a large part of our production is located in Europe. By having our manufacturers close by, we can shorten transport distances, ensure high quality, and work more resource-efficiently. We continue to develop our processes to use materials and energy in a more responsible way. A concrete example is our fossil-free deliveries, which significantly reduce our CO₂ emissions. Our entire environmental work permeates everything from material selection and product development to logistics and long-term supplier partnerships.
We also work to reduce our environmental impact by:
- Reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by60% by 2030
- Reducing water use in textile production
- Continuously increase the proportion of more sustainable materials
- Increase transparency in our value chain
- Reduce plastic in packaging and replace it with better alternatives
Since chemicals are a natural part of textile production, we take special responsibility for ensuring their safe and controlled use. We comply with EU regulations and work according to a comprehensive program for environmental and social compliance. All our suppliers and factories must sign our Substance List, which includes requirements under REACH, and follow guidelines for SVHC substances (Substances of Very High Concern). In this way, we ensure safety for both users and those who work in production.
We also offer products certified according toOEKO-TEX® Standard 100, the world's leading label for textiles tested for harmful substances. Certified items are clearly marked in our range. Read more about our certifications below.
Our environmental work is based on the UN Global Compact and its ten principles for corporate responsibility. By working purposefully, transparently, and in close dialogue with our suppliers and customers, we strive every day to make wise decisions that lead to a more sustainable planet.
Responsibility for the people behind our products
For us, safe, fair, and respectful working conditions are a fundamental prerequisite for our entire business. We work according to clear policies, international guidelines, and a comprehensive code of conduct that ensures that both our employees and our suppliers operate according to the same high standards.
We never accept any form of child labor, and we do not work with production units that employ people under the age of 18. Through regular internal and external audits, we review the working environment in our value chain to ensure that everyone who works with our products has safe, fair, and legal conditions. This means that we comply with all relevant legislation and collective agreements regarding minimum age, working hours, leave, and compensation.
All our employees should have a safe working environment and be given the conditions to perform their work in a professional, sustainable, and developmental manner. We have a clear anti-discrimination policy that guarantees equal rights and opportunities regardless of gender, gender identity or gender expression, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, age, pregnancy, or parenthood. Every employee is expected to actively contribute to an inclusive, respectful, and safe working environment.
We place the same high demands on our suppliers as we do on ourselves. Our partners must comply with our guidelines on human rights, working conditions, environmental responsibility, and business ethics. This is regulated in our code of conduct, which is based on:
- The UN Global Compact and its ten principles
- UN Declaration of Human Rights
- ILO fundamental conventions on rights at work
- United Nations Convention against Corruption
The Code of Conduct applies to everyone who works at Ernst Alexis and our Nytello brand. It is everyone's responsibility to act in line with our values and ensure that all decisions are made with respect for people, the environment, and ethics.
Our goal is to offer high-quality products without ever compromising on human rights or good working conditions – either in our own organization or among our suppliers. This responsibility follows us throughout the value chain and is a natural part of how we build a sustainable business.
How we work with sustainable product development & longer product life
For us, sustainability begins in the design process. When developing new products, we focus on quality, smart material choices, and timeless designs that stand the test of time. Our garments should not only be functional and aesthetically sustainable—they should also withstand long and active use.
Responsible and needs-driven product strategy
In 2025, we will have implemented a comprehensive transformation of our product strategy. We now work in a more data-driven and needs-based way, which means that we develop our product range based on actual demand. By adjusting purchasing volumes and reviewing which products really serve a purpose, we can minimize overproduction, avoid unnecessary stock, and create a more sustainable product cycle.
As part of this, we are also optimizing our size options. By analyzing usage and fit, we can adjust our range of sizes to both reduce waste and ensure that our garments best meet customer needs.
Conscious choices of suppliers and production
We choose our suppliers and factories with care, and strive as far as possible to produce within Europe. For our Ernst Alexis brand, almost all production takes place at European manufacturers. At Nytello, we are actively working to transition and move as much production as possible to Europe, where we can ensure shorter transport distances, greater transparency, and better control throughout the supply chain.
Animal welfare and ethics
We adhere to a clear ethical compass: our products are never tested on animals. We strongly oppose animal testing in all parts of our value chain and see this as a natural part of our responsibility for both sustainability and ethics.
Certificates
Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is one of the world's leading and most well-known certifications for textile products. The certification means that each product has been thoroughly tested to ensure that it does not contain any harmful substances and is therefore safe to use.
In both Nytello's and Ernst Alexis's product ranges, items that are Oeko-Tex certified are clearly marked with the respective certificate number on the product page.
